Dielectric relaxor and ferroelectric relaxor: Bi-doped paraelectric SrTiO3

چکیده
In this article, we report the evolution of the dielectric behavior from a dielectric relaxor to a ferroelectric relaxor with variation of Bi concentration in (Sr121.5xBix)TiO3 (00.0033, an additional mode C appears, whose Tm increases with increasing Bi concentration. The complex permittivity for mode C does not follow the Cole–Cole equation. The relaxation time of mode C follows the Vogel–Fulcher law, indicating typical relaxor-ferroelectric behavior. In this work, we refer it to a ‘‘ferroelectric relaxor’’ mode. In the range of 0.00330.133. This system provides a composition-controlled example of evolution from a ‘‘dielectric relaxor’’ to a ‘‘ferroelectric relaxor.’’ In addition, some controversial interpretations of the dielectric behavior of the Bi doped SrTiO3 solid solutions in the literature are discussed, and the polarization relaxation species of modes A and B are attributed to Bi ions. © 2002 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1428799#

Dielectric relaxation modes in bismuth-doped SrTiO3: The relaxor behavior
The ferroelectric relaxor behavior in Bi-doped SrTiO3 was studied in the temperature range 1.5–300 K and up to 400 MHz. Some interesting results are shown: ~1! Typical ferroelectric relaxor behavior develops out of the other impurity relaxation modes. The ferroelectric relaxor peaks occur on the quantum-paraelectric background. The polarization irreversibility effect observed after field coolin...

SrTiO3 ~ST! doped with Bi shows three Bi-induced dielectric modes ~modes A, B, and C) that are superimposed upon the quantum paraelectric behavior of pure ST. In ST doped with low concentration Bi, the modes A and B exhibit dielectric behavior arising from noninteracting polar clusters. The evidence of the dielectric modes coupling with optical phonons is observed from Raman spectra. The dielec...
متن کاملMonte Carlo simulation on dielectric and ferroelectric behaviors of relaxor ferroelectrics
The dielectric and ferroelectric behaviors of relaxor ferroelectrics over the ferroelectric transition range are simulated using Monte Carlo simulation. The simulation is based on the Ginzburg– Landau ferroelectric model lattice in which a random distribution of two types of defects ~dopants! which will suppress and enhance the local polarization, respectively, is assumed. The simulation reveal...
متن کاملImpurity-induced ferroelectric relaxor behavior in quantum paraelectric SrTiO3 and ferroelectric BaTiO3
The ‘‘ferroelectric relaxor’’ behavior, which shows a rounded permittivity peak with low-frequency dispersion, was first observed by Smolenskii et al. in the Ba(Ti,Sn)O3 solid solution in 1954. Later, this phenomenon was also observed in Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 ~PMN! compounds by the same group. Smolenskii et al. named this phenomenon as a behavior of the ferroelectric with diffuse phase transition ~D...
متن کاملRelaxor properties of Ba0.9Bi0.067(Ti1–xZrx)O3 ceramics
Starting from the well-known ferroelectric material BaTiO3, we show that coupled substitutions at the Ba and Ti cationic sites are able to improve the material properties. The compositions Ba0.9Bi0.067(Ti1−xZrx)O3 display a relaxor behaviour close to room temperature which open the way for possible use of it for capacitor applications. The origin of such optimization is related to the Bi cation...
